What a relief, to riding in the winter! Well, as long as you’re prepared. Riding when it’s hot out requires two basic things: water and sunscreen, and lots of it! Obviously, when it’s hot out you will sweat a lot more, so you’ll have to drink more water to compensate. For longer rides, make sure you get enough electrolytes in addition to water, or your sweat function will be compromised.
With warm weather comes lots of sun. Prevent sunburns by wearing sunscreen on all your exposed skin. If you sweat a lot, don’t forget to reapply often, as your sunscreen will wash away even if you use that special sweat-proof stuff.
It’s also important to wear nice, light, breathable clothing. Any bike shop will have a huge selection of riding gear, usually in bright, obnoxious colours. This performance clothing works well. Many regular sports stores will have non-specific athletic clothing (look for soccer jerseys) that will work just as well. Avoid wearing cotton, it tends to absorb sweat rather than allow it to evaporate.
